What is this type of logic puzzle called?

I'm trying to find a type of puzzle which I had a whole book of a few years ago. I have forgotten the name! It was in a black and white printed book like you would find crossword in etc, and has clues to help you solve a kind of problem. I think there's a two way table in which you put crosses as well. That's as best I can explain it, please help! Thanks :)
