Are some allergies hereditary?

Allergy can seem to run in families. Hay fever and anaphylactic conditions run in mine. My husband, however, is the only one in his family that appears to have an allergy! Trust him to be different! Asthma can be caused by allergy so if there is a history of that in the family it may be linked.
