A quest. on God?

i believe in a higher intelligence, but i find it hard to believe it's a "good" one. our lives are based on survival (evolution), not compion. you will receive anything from God if you work hard even if you gnore others who are in pain; that's why we have prosperity vs. poverty. so, what do you make of God on the basis of that? thanx
