Question about Catholicism...?

I am a nondenominational christian, and my husband was catholic however it has been years and years since he has been to church. I want to raise my child catholic; however, I would prefer it be somewhat liberal. I don't know anything about catholicism, confessions, ect. So I want to ease into the change in culture. Does anyone have suggestions as far a looking for a church? What should I look for? I'm completely lost!!!
